RE: Ugly Fish Could Be On The Menu. China Life Photography
My late American husband also said that he felt the whole fish was watching him, he didn't eat them. Different race, different cultural background!
Do you like any of these fish?
I don't think I have eaten any seafish, most of fish I eat should be freshwater fish, they are good. I guess it is the character and tradition of Chinese food, they cook the whole fish on purpose for keeping intact. Fish is 鱼yu in Chinese, it is an auspicious food in the feast.
鱼yu is the homophonous character 余 yu, 余means enough/surplus, so the whole fish represents "abundance" in the feast!
Where i am from in Canada we eat mostly fresh water fish too. I like trout and salmon. Or whatever i can catch.
