Tips for Keeping Your Children Safe from Coronavirus

Individuals up to the age of 18 have a relatively low or rare infection rate. To be precise, only 2.4% of all reported coronavirus cases are that of children, according to data published by the World Health Organization. However, this figure does not mean that children cannot contract this dangerous virus.

Therefore, as parents, you need to adopt strict measures to protect your children against COvid-19. Here’s what you can do.

Seek Medical Attention
Standard symptoms of Covid-19 are fever, cough and shortness of breath. The flu season is already going on, so do not confuse it with the common cold. Even if the symptoms are mild, you never know how it might affect the child. Therefore, ask them to come up to you and talk about any discomfort they might be feeling. Be a watchful parent and notice any changes in their behaviour. Visit your nearest children’s hospital if you suspect the worst.

Keep Them Informed
Every child must understand the severity of the ongoing pandemic. In a child-friendly manner, explain what coronavirus is and how dangerous it can be. Try to be sensitive to their reactions and offer reassurance. But, do not bombard them with too much information on death and health complications. Instead teach them how to protect themselves even when you are not around.

Maintain Good Hygiene

Prevention is the best course of action for Covid-19. Therefore, demonstrate safety measures to children and make sure they follow. Wash their hands for 20 seconds with soap from time to time. In the absence of water, make use of alcohol-based hand sanitizers. Make them wear masks whenever they step out of the house. Ask them to avoid touching lift buttons, railings and doorknobs, if not absolutely necessary. Lastly, while coughing and sneezing, the mouth and nose must be covered with a hand or elbow.

Strong Immunity System
The right food will strengthen immunity and help children fight against infections, if any. Add a pinch of turmeric in their milk daily, which will act as a powerful antioxidant. Fruits rich in Vitamin C are packed with phytonutrients, which can kill bacteria. Additionally, crushed or grated ginger and garlic in hot water can also boost immunity. A balanced diet is very important for health.

Social Distancing

When you are stepping out to buy essentials, take your child along for some fresh air. However, make sure they are well aware of the social distancing protocol. Keep them from shaking hands, hugging or kissing other children. While standing in queues, they should maintain at least 2 meters distance from other people. Lastly, if they see anyone coming in close proximity, the child should ask them to step back.

Protecting children from the shadow of this deadly disease is not tough. You need to follow the guidelines laid down by doctors at children’s hospitals. Let them access accurate information from reliable websites only. Being aware of the seriousness of the condition will push them to take steps without you having to monitor constantly.
