Having a children's birthday party in the apartment, crazy or recommended?

Hardly anyone today organizes children's birthday parties in the apartment, We did it and it was stressful but it was much warmer and intimate than usual parties.

Children at that age (10years) go to the cinema or kids playroom for a few hours and then everybody go home.
Our party lasted almost 7 hours,the children and their parents had fun, the cake was homemade not ordered from pastry shop,grandparents and rest of the family were also present and everything was like in my childhood.

Yes, my wife and I had to work hard from purchasing supplies, cleaning the apartment before and after the party, handling all the needs for children and the adults but it was just a great party which I think my kids will remember for long time. just look at their happy faces :)

What are your experiences? Do you think that it is worthwhile to organize a party in the apartment or it is easier to pay to be organized outside the home?
