Jesus and the children: From the lips of children and infants you, Lord, have called forth your praise

Children have a special role in the doctrine of the Kingdom of Heaven. When Jesus enters Jerusalem, Jesus performs miracles in the temple and a chorus of children appears on the scene praising God for the signs made by Jesus. The children represent simplicity, purity, and innocence, that is, the holiness that God wants in the hearts of men: "Be holy, because I am holy", 1 Peter 1:16. This moment is the fulfillment of Psalm 8, the psalm that gives thanks for the creation to God:
"Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. ´It is written,´ he said to them, ´My house will be called a house of prayer,´ but you are making it ´ a den of robbers.´
The blind and the lame came to him at the temple, and he healed them. But when the chief priests and the teachers of the law saw the wonderful things he did and the children shouting in the temple courts, ´Hosanna to the Son of David,´ they were indignant.
´Do you hear what these children are saying?´ they asked him.
´Yes,´ replied Jesus, ´have you never read,
´From the lips of children and infants
you, Lord, have called forth your praise?´", Matthew 21:12-16.

Children in the gospel are in a special relationship with God, children are God's favorites: "Jesus said, ´Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these´", Matthew 19:14; and also: "Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me", Mark 9:37.
Jesus sets them in constant example, so that we become like them, new people with a renewed heart and without malice; thus fulfilling a requirement of the gospel: "Be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect", Matthew 5:48.
