EFFECTS OF BAD GOVERNANCE ON EDUCATION
The virtue of all the established institutions of the contemporary world has been morally degenerated and compromised as well as their usefulness by the ones in power. This has been as a result of an unethical gang that has become perverse in the government. This has resulted to bad governance. Integrity impairment has been on the increase and nurtured in each level of government. It has become part of the customs, and has been admitted as normal. This combined with other factors has led to bad governance which has greatly impacted negatively on education sector.
Governance and education policy affects each other. This constant relationship characterized by bad governance has rendered unsuccessful the education sector. Bad governance has been perceived to be the major cause of inferior, low quality education. It comprises of insult to human rights, corruption, irresponsiveness, unaccountability and lack of transparency. Ultimately therefore, bad governance has affected education in the following ways;
Embezzlement of funds
As a result of corruption offices have been insulted for personal gains. Educational funds have been misused by few rendering the educational sector dysfunctional and stagnant. As a result, coupled with reluctant workers and constant strikes the educational sector delivery has grown poor.
Poor educational sector policies
Bad governance has led to impairment of freedom of expression while this is nearly connected to maltreatment of human rights, people’s views are equally not heard, or put into account. Nationals have been hindered from giving their views on the policies concerning education sector and the government affairs. In this befall, communication process is impaired and the public can only get directives and orders on what to do but are never allowed to make suggestions. This has been a major restraining factor to quality service delivery by the education sector.
Lack of liability and transparency
As a result of bad governance, the judgments that the government comes up with goes against the rules and regulations. This is because the governmental institutions are not responsible to the citizens. In this situation, leaders are free to do whatever they wish because no one will interrogate them. This also hinders citizen’s access to information regarding government’s agendas and can lead to mass corruption.
Lack of access to education by the poor
In educational institutions, bribery has become rampant overtime, in regard to admission. While this favors the rich class, the poor are not able to enroll in public schools. This leaves them with no option as the private institutions are more expensive in comparison to public education institutions.
Inadequate and low quality structures and teaching equipments
Learning institutions are inadequate to accommodate all the qualified learners. This has disadvantaged a good number of the citizens especially from the low class as they can’t bribe to preserve vacancies. Most institutions also lack adequate modern equipments to facilitate learning processes leading to low quality education and production of half backed graduates.
