Don't be afraid to give up your pieces if it ultimately leads to winning the game. Pay particular attention to checks, captures and threats that sacrifice something for checkmate, future material gains or a strong attack.

In here there's a sacrifice that very soon will make us win a major piece, can you spot it?

By moving the knight to f3 we check the king and fork the queen but, we also open up the file to take the Queen with the rook.

Forcing the pawn to take the king to get out of check makes us lose the Queen and deliver check at the same time.
