Which Bishop is the better?

When talking to different players you will often hear that knights are better than bishops other times you will hear that bishops are better than knights, some people will never trade their knight or bishop because they think it is such a good chess piece, bishops are usually a better piece for open positions but for closed positions they are useless.

Generally speaking the game itself will tell you whether a bishop or knight is better, if only bishops are left, the game will tell you whether the black squared bishop or the white squared bishop is better. If your bishop can only attack your own pawns and none of the opponents then the bishop is considered as a bad bishop as in the end game it will provide no attack so it is good to get rid of that bishop as fast a possible.

In the start of the game you can't say that knights, white or the black squared bishops are good piece as the only position will tell you.

So why not take a look at a few positions?

white has a good bishop.png

In this first image we can clearly see that white has the good bishop as the bishop can attack the blacks pawns, while the blacks bishop is trapped with his own pawns making it a bad bishop!
Easy :)

In the second image we can see that the bishops are are trapped just by looking at the position we can tell that right now the bishops are pretty useless pieces.

black has got the good bishop.png

In this image we can see that black has got the the better bishop as it is more free and able to attack all whites pawns. For white in this position we can clearly see that it's trapped and can't attack the black pawns at all.

For this last one I want you to judge on your own and comment down in the comment which bishop the better one is and why!
