A Position from an OTB rapid tournament

in #chess6 years ago

So Yesterday I was playing a chess tournament, in the final round I needed at least a draw to clinch first place.
That is I needed a draw to be alone on first, I could lose and maybe share.

Anyway the following position occurred (at least that is the position I remember, might have been a little different.)

Here I found the tricky move 1.Be6, the point is 1. ... Re7 2.Rc8#, which then occurred on the board.

Sort:

And if Rd8 (or Rc7) instead of Re7?

Clearly Better, White still has some edge there
