Chernobyl
Currently watching Chernobyl on HBO.
This got me so in the mood for contemporary history, that I am now reading about it.
And when I was thinking, wait, that is never real, in the series, the books says otherwise. You didn't believe it? Just continue reading and see, how it even gets worse or more obscure.
Halfway through, I cannot stop reading.
Next topic on my reading list:
Vietnam, because, how could this be a hard reading topic?
:))
I haven't read books on Chernobyl but I have read a lot of other stuff: the series seems to have been amazingly accurate and, combined with the podcasts with the writer and creator of the series, I'm satisfied that it's a very true presentation.
The nuclear physics presented in the final episode were absolutely brilliant. I can't fault it on technical grounds and the presentation was simply stunning.
Mentioning the 3 divers, that all of them survived at the end was nice, also, to see the real persons on video and picture was a nice touch.
The explanation was well done. But in reality way more boring I guess, the trial took e week or longer? :)
Oh yes, the podcast, that was so awesome. Someone to listen to after the show. That sold me! :))
I've heard some good things about this show. A horror-movie community that I frequent has mentioned that the sense overwhelming dread makes it seem almost Lovecraftian.
I haven't seen it so I can't confirm or deny, but it is definitely getting some good press. It's on my list to check out.
I hate horror movies.
But I love history and documentaries. And this one is a well done one. If it contains lovecraftian elements, I guess reality is lovecraftian :)
