Additional sanctions have been imposed on the Blues owner as a result of his association with Vladimir Putin.

The European Union has sanctioned Roman Abramovich for his ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin and the country's military invasion of Ukraine.

The UK government has already sanctioned Abramovich, with the Chelsea owner expressing his intention to sell the club prior to the penalty.

Due to measures imposed by Britain, restrictions on Abramovich have had a significant influence on Chelsea's operations.

Sanctions by the European Union

After member states formally agreed a fourth package of sanctions against Russia, the EU has joined the UK government in penalizing Abramovich.

An import embargo on Russian steel and iron, an export ban on luxury goods worth more than €300 and cars worth more than €50,000, and a prohibition on investments in oil businesses and the energy sector are among the penalties.

The current package affects 14 Russians, including Abramovich.

The EU noted in a statement that "Roman Abramovich is a Russian oligarch with long and strong ties to Vladimir Putin."

"He has had special access to the president and maintains excellent connections with him." He was able to keep his enormous wealth because to his connections with Russian officials.

A sale is imminent.

In the wake of the Russian oligarch's suspension by the UK government, Abramovich has directed merchant bank Raine Group to locate a new owner for the club, with a dozen parties reportedly interested.

With the bidding deadline set for Friday, the UK restrictions prevent Abramovich from profiting from Chelsea's upcoming sale.

Chelsea will not necessarily be sold to the highest bidder, but to someone who can bring "additional value" to the club through their ownership.
