Good luck @mannyfig1956

This has been on my mind for quite some time now. I came to steemit for the basis of building a platform for my writing; the cryptocurrency is an after thought and bonus later down the line.
But, my question is this- how does steem get its value?
I mean, in the business world and stock markets, most commodities and products' pricing are based on supply and demand (ie. gasoline and oil). So what and how exactly does an abstract (thinking dollars and coin are concrete things) currency gain or lose value?

Not sure if you can answer this, but maybe other members can chime in. I know I may sound ignorant of how this works, but as I said I am not here solely for the earnings.
