Steemit Charity Experiment

I have done some charity raising in the past using the platform gaming for good. The problem with raising money for charity is you have to convince people to give their own money. I've always pondered the idea of being able to raise money without anyone having to give their own money. For example using ad revenue from youtube adsense, by getting people to just click an ad on a video that would sort of be a way of generating money without people having to give their own money. But that was never really an option since youtube doesn't allow you to just tell people to click ads on your channel over and over.
So I just had the thought that this could be a very viable option with steemit. To use steemit to raise money all that has to be done is pick a charity, make a post about it, and everyone that wants to raise money for it just has to upvote the post and share it.
You would have to trust the raiser to still actually then donate the money once it is raised... But the good thing it is even if the person doing it runs off with the money the donators wouldn't necessarily lose their own money.
Has anyone ever tried this using steemit yet? I searched the idea and found a few posts talking about the idea but I haven't found many that have actually tried this yet. Charity is one of the least used and searched topics on steemit which is absurd considering the potential.
The most I have raised for gamingforgood was about $100. I used to play an online card trading game and would sell the cards to players for real money and had them donate the money to my gamingforgood fundraising account. The nice thing about gamingforgood is you can actually prove you donated the money by showing your account fundraiser balance. The problem was there wasn't really anyway for people without money to help me raise money.
https://www.gamingforgood.net/s/theokon This was the account I used to raise the money. I no longer use this account though. As you can see it shows I raised $98.51 usd. The reason I sold cards was because it was practically impossible to get people to give their own money. The only way I could get most people to give money was to give them back something of value like trading cards. With steemit this may no longer be an issue.
What are your thoughts on this method? Would it work well? Have you tried it?
So I say lets give this a try! All I ask from you is a click of your mouse.
Upvote this post, resteemit, share it, or make your own charity post for a charity you like. I suppose I could let you all vote on where to donate the money raised but I will only donate to a site that I can prove that I sent them the money, like gamingforgood. If I can't prove I sent the money to a charity then I have no way to gain reputation in order to keep doing this.
If this actually works and this posts makes a ton of money then I will think about making a separate steemit account specifically to use for just charity rather than using my own personal blogging account.
Do any of you know of some good charity platforms that have donator lists?
https://www.gamingforgood.net/s/the_reginald This is my current gamingforgood account so this may be where I send the money. If this post gains more than $1 usd I will donate everything this post makes.
The key here is sharing the post. If a couple people upvote it the plan won't work. Share the HELL out of this or make your own post about using steemit for charity. Mass attention is how you make a charity work.
I made a post with a similar idea on my page a couple hours before you posted this.
Ya I ended up finding it after I made this post. I really think if someone put some effort into the idea it could be very successful.
Yes, I believe our community needs to come together to help others who are suffering because of natural disasters or terrorist attacks etc. I'm currently writing another post about charity
I just had a similar idea and I found your post this morning.
I have a plan to get started with this. I have contacted a few charities this morning to see if I can get them to post donations via twitter or some other publicly verifiable method. I hope to post something in the next few days and would appreciate your support.
