How to donate automatically on the Carebit blockchain
This article will be about the ability to donate automatically from your Carebit wallet. Most wallets based on Dash or PIVX have the ability to automatically forward all or part of your masternode or staking rewards to another address. This is probably a feature that found its way into the wallet to move earned coins to cold storage for safekeeping, but it is a feature that works really well for donations as well.
I have written about Carebit before. Actually, my last 2 articles were about Carebit. Since I became a member of Steemit a while back, I simply had no idea what I could write articles about. Carebit has given me inspiration to write about, and that is the reason I am posting almost exclusively about Carebit at the moment.
I'm not part of the team, but I am an active community member and one of the moderators on their Discord server. As I explained in one of the other articles, when I learned about Carebit initially, I quickly determined that it had all the characteristics of what is popularly called a shitcoin, but their goals and persistence made me stick to it anyway. After getting to know some of the other community members and a number of the members of the team, I got convinced that they meant well and that donations for charity really is good use of a blockchain. After all, the blockchain was designed for all to be able to see all transactions that cannot be altered by anyone afterwards, and that is the kind of transparency that is lacking from most fundraisings and non-profit organisations (NPO) today. We have no idea, how much is collected in a particular fundraising and how much of it is used on helping people. This gives energy to negative ideas, making people turn away from making donations at all.
Carebit started a fundraising last week to provide a little extra for the victims of storm Florence that hit the East coast of the US. Since Carebit is just starting and most of the tools it is going to be using for tracking fundraisers like this are not ready yet. Therefore Carebit has launched a campaign on Discord, Twitter, Facebook and all the other channels they can reach out on via their community members. It is possible to donate via Bitcoin via a Bitcoin address dedicated to this fundraising and there is an address on the Carebitcoin blockchain that is also dedicated to this fundraising. Both addresses can be looked up on a random Bitcoin explorer or on the Carebit explorer, and everyone can follow the progress of the fundraising and if any money is used from those addresses.
I have to admit, the donations over the past week have not been abundant. After one week we are looking approximately $164 USD in total from 17 individual donors. The idea was to collect $3000 USD to distribute food baskets for those that return to their homes and find them devastated. This target seems hard to reach the way it looks at the moment.
One reason for not donating might be, at least for those owning CARE already, that they forget. We have been discussing on Discord, what would happen if all masternode operators on the network donated all their rewards to the fundraising for a week. What a masternode is falls outside the scope of this article, but the thing to know about a masternode is that it currently generated 528 CARE pr. day for the owner of the masternode. Those coins are a payment to the masternode operator for running a masternode keeping the network secure and to cover costs for running the hardware or renting a virtual server. But what if a masternode operator decided to donate those coins to a fundraising for a week?
A quick calculation shows, that with 490 masternodes in the network, and all of them getting 528 CARE in rewards a day, we would be able to donate the following amount to any good cause:
490 Masternodes x 528 CARE x 7 days (1 week) = 1,811,040 CARE
Yes... that is right... 1 million, 811 thousand and 40 CARE... and that is basically money that was generated by the network. It means that the masternode operators do not earn money for 1 week, but they don't actually have to give away any money that they have already accumulated. At current prices, this amount of CARE is equal to $2,800 USD, which is very close to the target for this fundraising.
Now... there are not only masternode operators in the network. There must be many more CARE holders, that do not operate a masternode but simply have some coins in their wallet. Of those, there are surely a number that are staking their coins. In the Carebit network you can stake your coins, which means that your coins earn a reward of 20 coins every once in a while. This requires that the wallet is open for staking coins. It is much harder to predict how much one can earn by staking, but it is easily possible to earn 20 CARE 2-4 times a day by simply having 10000 CARE in a wallet. I repeat, the wallet needs to be open, and unlocked for staking. I people donated their staking rewards for a week to a fundraising, this would boost the total donations even more, also from money that is generated by the network and it means people do not actually have to give any of their money that is in their wallet already.
Donating part or all of the rewards, this can be either staking rewards, or masternode rewards, or both, can be setup in the Carebit wallet automatically. I will show how to do just this, in the remainder of this article. Almost all Dash/PIVX wallets have the same look and feel. The feature we are going to be using is called MultiSend. The Carebit wallet for Mac OS X looks like this, but I'm sure most people will have no problems finding the "MultiSend" option under "Settings" in the Windows or Linux wallets.
Once you have selected the "MultiSend" menu option, a new dialog windows will open and it looks like this:
What you do now, is really straight forward. You check the tickboxes for "Send for Stakes" or "Send for Masternode rewards" depending if you want to transfer part or all of the Staking rewards or part of all of the Masternode rewards or both to another address on the Carebit blockchain. This would be the CARE address as specified in the bottom of this article.
The next thing you specify, is the percentage of of all rewards you want to transfer. If you have 1 masternode and want to donate all rewards, you specify 100. If you have 2 masternodes and want to transfer rewards of 1 masternode you would specify 50. You can enter the value that you think is reasonable. If you select both Staking and Masternode rewards, it will donate the percentage specified of both. It is not possible to specify a percentage for Staking and Masternode rewards individually. The last thing you enter, is the address you want to transfer the coins to. Make sure, as with any transfer, that the address is correct and valid.
Now you push the "Add" button, followed by the "Activate" button. To the right of the buttons, it should now show the MultiSend entries that you have setup. You can enter more than one, if you want to donate to multiple fundraisers, or if you have a setup to transfer coins to cold storage and to a fundraiser. As soon as you think you have donated enough, you can "Deactivate" it, or simply "Delete" it permanently.
It should not be more simple than that, to automatically donate CARE to a fundraising of your liking. The only thing that is not automatic, is to stop it when you think you have donated enough. I encourage everyone to try this feature and donate part or all of your rewards to the fundraising for the victims of storm Florence. And to use the same feature on future fundraisings. Being part of the Carebit community hopefully means, you are willing to donate to those that are less fortunate than us.
Happy donating!! :-)
