Elderly Man Vows To Go To Prison Before He Stops Feeding Homeless
Arnold Abbott previously gained widespread attention a couple of years ago after he was arrested by police in Florida for feeding the homeless in that area.
Abbott is in his 90s and he's been feeding the homeless around Fort Lauderdale for decades now. And for his actions of feeding those in need, there are still criminal charges pending against him.
Abbott says that authorities have offered to allow him to feed those in need from a pre-approved feeding place.
Abbott sees them as trying to make him give up the beach that he has frequented for so many years, and essentially to give up his freedom in where he chooses to distribute food to those who are hungry in the area. It doesn't look like he is going to budge on this one.
He has said that he would rather go to jail first than stop feeding the homeless.
This is something that Abbott has been doing for over 25 years now and he funds his efforts through a program that he established called the Love Thy Neighbor Fund.
Abbott says that the fund is running low because he recently lost one of his top donors, he fears that he might not be able to carry on with his charitable efforts much longer.
He admits that he has considered taking funds from his retirement account in order to maintain his feeding program.
If that doesn't work he said he's ready to sell his blood, or do whatever he can to continue on helping others.
This man clearly has an inspiring passion for helping others and it's a shame to see authorities waste their time and his with trying to infringe upon his natural rights.

@doitvoluntarily, what is wrong with this world? Like the NWA, fuck the police and the law on this one. Mr. Abbott should do whatever he wants.
We need a more accessible platform that allows legislators to comment on laws to justify why they're needed. I'm sure there was a good purpose for this law at one point, but it would be amazing for the public to be able to see a link to the law in a news article and immediately have access to the debate about why the law is useful and whether it still serves society.
A crypto-based reputation platform would help normal non-lawyer people understand why the law are so and also for normal people to be able to directly give feedback on unjust or obsolete laws.
The reputation part of the platform would ensure that lawyers would need to break things down from legal speak to normal person language. The transparency would allow people to understand when there are bad influences on the law, like corruption or the undue force of tradition.
there isn't good purpose for a lot of laws, unless you consider control over the natural rights of others to be a good purpose 👍 😜 not all laws are just.
Of course not all laws are just. Some are made up by tyrants and the corrupt. But many laws are out there to defend exactly those natural rights from being infringed upon by others.
Laws naturally restrict freedoms, while promoting stability. Ultimately, laws are just a bunch of rules that society has agreed to in order to protect itself. Opening up laws to transparency like a reputational platform brings the personal rights perspective back into the rigid structure of the written word. It would nudge the current system more towards a natural rights perspective by making it easier for individuals to participate in shaping the laws toward a more just society.

One initial question I have for you regarding this, do you reject government AND capitalism? I understand some flavours of anarchism oppose both government and capitalism.

I can't believe that there are people punishing people who try to do good to his neighbors. What's with that? What's wrong helping people? Is it against the law to feed the homeless? This is a big slap on the face of the law makers. Are they not ashamed of what they did? The government has more than enough to give these people what they need but they could not do it instead they put a single person in prison for doing what supposed to be theirs.

What exactly was he charged with? What method was he using to feed people? Did he set up a food stand or something?
I really admire the tenacity of this man.
