Zidane I don't regret Real Madrid rotations
After making eight changes to his starting line-up to face Sevilla, Zinedine Zidane faced questions from the press as his Real Madrid side were on the wrong end of a 3-2 scoreline at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.Los Blancos relied on two late goals to cut the deficit and salvage some pride thanks to Borja Mayoral's header and Sergio Ramos' penalty."It's a team that can win easily," he insisted of his team selection. "I don't regret the line-up. There are still two games left and it was an opportunity to show up."It's a shame because they are the players who play less but I can't blame them for anything. They did all they could, in the second half they scored two goals."The coach denied that he was effectively writing off LaLiga by selecting weakened teams in the competition and insisted it was what is necessary for his side."Not at all, every player I have is competent," he said adamantly."We have a lot of games and have to rest, there's a final and we have to rest, I'm the coach and I decide."The result is clearly another blow to their confidence after being unable to secure a win in Barcelona on Sunday with the Champions League final on the horizon."We are disappointed but it won't affect anything, on Saturday we have another game," he said. The result and performance typified what has been a stop-start campaign domestically and Zidane did not hide his dismay with how things have gone in the league."More than just the play, we can't be happy with the results we have in the league this season," he admitted."But with the play, yes [we can be happy]. Today there were many players who haven't played, we can't be happy with the first half but with the second, yes, we can."We won't talk more about what we've done in the league, especially at the start when it was difficult."Doubts were also cast over the performance of Sergio Ramos as the captain missed a penalty, smashing it against the crossbar playing against his former club and scored an own goal before finally converting from 12 yards on the second opportunity."Sergio is our captain, whenever we come here something always happens with him," Zidane reflected. "There are times like this, he knows it and he's focused."For the penalty he wasn't sharp, but these things happen, I saw him play well like the others, especially in the second half."Zidane will now face more tough decisions as Real Madrid host Celta Vigo at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday at 20:45 CET.
