May 30 Days Writing Challenge - Day Twenty Eight: Given That Steemit Is Open Source, Would You Start A Steemit Clone? If Yes, Why? If Not, Why?
We are almost finished with the 30-day writing challenge and this was a very interesting topic as I know for sure a lot of people have the idea that they can do things better especially if they have been in Steemit for quite some time thinks that it is broken beyond saving.
Honestly, I think there is still a lot of room for improvement in how Steem is run but I don't necessarily feel that it an abandon ship type of moment yet.
So taking @dragosroua questions I will break it down why I will not make a Steemit Clone.
1. Do you have the technical skills to implement the Steem blockchain?
- Personally, I don't have the technical skills but what I do have is technical recruitment skills. I have hired for developers, coders, web designers, database administrators and the like as part of my work. I have contacts in all fields of development and so if I don't know how to do something I can always bank on the skills of people that I know and respect.
2. Do you have the networking skills to put together the initial round of witnesses?
- Although I know a lot of people this is one area that I know I will not be able to fill.
3. Do you have the financial resources for marketing?
I work in branding and marketing as well and even if I call in favors and trade favors, I don't think I have the capability to handle something as large as this.
I saw this one person that was doing this and he was just launching a token and the amount of time and financial strain he endures is a lot that I don't think I can handle.
4. Do you see yourself managing (even from a position of a founder) such a big business?
- Like him, I consider this a very important question as I have built, managed and failed in several business models. I have some businesses that are still running but are very small ones that do not need me to be hands-on and devote a lot of time.
Even if the code is open there is more to it than getting it, opening a couple of servers, using a DPOS consensus protocol and having witnesses., the marketing it, getting investors, content creators and readers.
All of these things are hard to achieve especially now that a lot more people are trying to do it. If you set yourself as just a Steemit clone without adding your unique selling position then it would be lost in the net.

I'm wondering if this question was meant to a) make us realize that a steemit clone is no small feat, and by virtue of that, b) we should be thankful for what Steemit actually does do for us. :)
My comment to DR on his post was similar to your points here. After acknowledging the fact I did not have the technical wherewithal to do any of this, I also pretty much said I didn't have the desire, too. Getting up and running another business of any sort, small, medium or large, is not what I'm about anymore. Too much responsibility and too much downside. I'll keep it to a one man operation from now on (if that's possible).
Hahahaa it might be the the whole reason for this challenge to get us to appreciate Steemit more.
We know how difficult it is to create a business. More so in creating one that is about technology.
Even if I had the money, technical skill and the patience to do it I might still not because it will be too much work hahhahaa
Like you I would have different thing that I want to do at this point of my life.
And we potentially pass up millions or billions in the process, eh?
Well, as much as I could dream about basically being able to do whatever I want whenever I want, it's the freedom and the time that I'm ultimately after, not the wealth itself. That can't go with us when we die, anyway. But it can be put to good use here.
I suppose in some ways I'm ready to leave some things up to you youngin's. Other things, though, I'm not ready to give up just yet. :)
It seems a interesting 30days writing challenge.👍 But what did you mean about start a steemit clone @maverickinvictus?
Oh this is part of the 30 day challenge that I am doing and today's topic was to explore the idea if I will make a Steemit clone
I love steemit and it's platform if there was I would give it a try. I'm always open to possibilities but that doesn't mean I'll go and completely abandon Steemit! This has become my home. ^^
Yeah Steemit is indeed awesome and has endless possibilities.
It made us possible to meet each other hahhaa.
It has become home indeed.
Totallly super totally :)
