June 30 Days Writing Challenge - Life Hacks - Day Five: Use Your Smartphone Like a Pro

in #challenge30days7 years ago

Being kind of an organized person I very often plan my days ahead, or at least every next one. The same thing I do with my posts on Steemit that I often prepare "today" for "tomorrow". However, yesterday after I wrote my #challenge30days post I almost instantly thought what am I gonna write tomorrow to keep up with Dragos's challenge.

Laying with my phone in my hand and having google keep open to take some notes I thought to myself why not share with you guys some of my hacks that I used on every android smartphone that I had to squeeze out of it the best performance and battery life that I could. I don't know if these are "really" life hacks, but being a smartphone geek and knowing that you all use smartphones why not share with you guys my setups.

I will mention from the beginning that I'm a Samsung users for years and the first battery saving trick that you can use on an AMOLED screen (like Samsungs have) is to set a black wallpaper and a black theme. That will save you some 5% of juice if you don't mind having everything black. AMOLED screens don't light up pixels on black screens.

In the apps department I use BK DISABLER PRO to disable all the Samsung bloatware that not only slows down the phone a bit, but it drains also some of its battery. With the use of this app you can disable almost anything that you want on your smartphone. It costs though about $2, but it's definitely worth the money and will for sure make the phone a bit snappier and longer lasting.

Next thing that I do with my smartphone, every night, is to put it on airplane mode. Not only that keeps any buzzing away from my sleep, but it also keeps radiations away from me and yeah...helps getting a better battery life.

An important thing that I do with my smartphone in order to prolong its life as much as I can(I don't like buying the latest and greatest every year) is to never let it completely drain and never use fast charging. Charging your phone at over 40% battery level, if possible, will keep your smartphone battery healthy and will prolong its life. By avoiding fast charging I also take out the risk of damaging and aging the battery too fast and I also noticed that there's not much difference between normal charging and fast charging. It's important to have a healthy battery if you want a long lasting smartphone.

If using a new version of android not closing all the apps too often will make your phone run smoother.I know that there is the myth of closing all apps so they don't work in the background too much, but with new android versions that's not the case anymore. I will recommend though clearing your cache at a couple of days and also wipe your cache partition once a month or after a major software update.

I don't recommend at all, and haven't used for years, battery saving apps. They only drain it more by constantly "guarding" and closing others. Letting android to its job is the best option. There is though greenify that sets itself apart from others by actually hibernating apps, but it has some privacy issues. Feel free to check it out on your own risk.

Ending the article with my favorite topic battery life I will recommend you to calibrate it once a month. That means you will have to drain it and then plug it in and let it charge to the max, preferably turned off. I know that I mentioned above about avoiding to drain the smartphone battery, but a calibration a month will only help it. Check out youtube on the topic for more details.

One last trick you can do for your beloved gadget is to turn it off once in a while. It won't hurt it or yourself if you simply switch it off during night or when your signal is weak. If you have any questions on how to change some of these settings or you need additional help on other android hacks feel free to ask me. I've been a smartphone geek for years and I might come in help for you... :)
