30 day challenge, Day 5. Registering to VotesteemCreated with Sketch.

Monday, October 22, is the municipal voting day here in Renfrew. In order to cast the ballot, you must be registered. My wife and I have only been here six months so we are not on the voters' list. We are on our way to get registered. We both believe voting is our right, obligation, and duty.

Being new to the municipality we took every opportunity to find out who the people on the ballot are. Our interest is in both incumbents and challengers.

The local newspaper was helpful running profiles and interviews. Some candidates took to social media to inform the public. We are well versed in local issues and how the previous Village Council resolved. So, we are ready to make a choice. Monday here we come.

Before returning home, a stop at the local grocery store, Metro, was required. Metro is a chain store but sells both local and Canadian products. We buy Canada first, as often as we can. Time to head home. Call the cab company, Vincent's and for a flat rate of seven dollars, anywhere within the municipal limits, head home.

We have lived in several places over the years and have relied on either public transit or taxies to get around, or we walked. Here, in Renfrew, we have encountered a ride share with the cab company. Today, there were three different destinations. Each customer pays their own fare.

This is great, we get to meet our fellow residents and see a bit of the town before arriving home, a win-win relationship. Monday we, with our neighbour, head to the polls.

I similarly believe voting is a "right, obligations and duty". California now has vote by mail which makes it easier. I often return my ballot to the polling place anyway just to go there on election day and be a part of it.

We can vote online in this election but we are going to the polls.
