What does graffiti express? Rage is one emotion. “I am here,” another. Art, an obvious one. I think we all have voices and sometimes the only way to express our voice is through the visual arts. It is hard to get one’s art noticed for most. I’ve only been in Albuquerque for 3 years and know there are many commissioned murals, including some that are created by children, elementary through high school. It’s amazing to see this art-in-progress. As for this imagery on the side of the Java Joe coffee shop (featured as the building of Tuco’s Lair), I think it is planned graffiti - not random.
