We have heard about chakras many times before. You will probably hear it at the right time while discussing with your friends, while talking to your loved ones or even when you were reading something about it.

But what is actually chakra? Chakra means ‘wheel’ in Sanskrit. So, these wheels of energy are known as subtle bodies. There are seven main chakra points.

These are:

Base Chakra (Muladhara)

Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana)

Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura)

Heart Chakra (Anahata)

Throat Chakra (Vishuddha)

Brow Chakra (Ajna)

Crown Chakra (Sahasrara)

Each of these chakras has its own significance and importance. The base chakra, which is located at the lower abdomen, is considered to be the root of all chakras. Muladhara is also known as Root Chakra.

Svadhisthana is located at the area of sexual organs, hence it is known as the sacral chakra.

Manipura is the third chakra, which is located between the eyebrows.

Vishuddha is the fourth chakra, located between the ears.

Ajna is the fifth chakra, located at the forehead.

Sahasrara is the sixth chakra, which is located at the top of the head.

The seventh chakra, which is known as the crown chakra, is located at the top of the head.

All the chakras have a particular role to play and you must be careful when you try to manipulate any one of them. When these chakras are balanced, you will feel healthy and happy.

The base chakra

The first chakra, known as muladhara, is located at the base of the spine. This is the first energy centre, which is responsible for the basic needs of life. The base chakra is responsible for the survival of the body.

This chakra is associated with the senses of hearing, touch, taste and smell.

The root chakra

The next chakra is the second chakra, which is known as svadhisthana. This is the second energy centre, which is associated with the sexual organs.

It is responsible for the basic human feelings, emotions and mental power. The second chakra is connected to the blood, bone, muscles, stomach, bladder and the genitalia.

The solar plexus chakra

The third chakra is the Manipur or the solar plexus. This is the third energy centre, which is located between the shoulder blades. It is associated with the intellect, intuition, awareness and will.

It is responsible for the physical, psychological, intellectual and spiritual health of a person.

The heart chakra

The fourth chakra is known as the anahata or the heart. This is the fourth energy centre. It is responsible for the emotions, compassion and love.

It is located at the centre of the chest.

The throat chakra

The fifth chakra is the Vishuddha or the throat. It is the fifth energy centre, which is responsible for the communication skills and speech. It is located at the throat.

The sixth chakra is the Ajna or the third eye. It is the sixth energy centre and is responsible for the spiritual development and enlightenment. It is located at the forehead.

The brow chakra

The seventh chakra is the sahasrara or the crown. It is the seventh energy centre, which is responsible for the intuition, wisdom and consciousness. It is located at the top of the head.
