Plastic ban

Starting last Monday, the Kenyan ban on plastic bags went into effect. Considering the vast number of plastic bags being distributed globally annually, this is definitely a step in the right direction towards reducing the environmental toll of plastics.

Countries such as Cameroon, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Mauritania and Malawi, and cities such as New Delhi, have already either banned, or signaled that they intend to ban plastic bags.

For the global environment as a whole, the plastic industry contributes more to environmental pollution than air traffic, so a reduction here will be extremely beneficial for then planet.

Plastic is made of oil

It takes two units (for example two metric kilos) of oil to produce one unit (metric kilo) of plastic, so reducing the amount of plastic consumed will have a tremendous positive effect on lowering the consumption of fossil fuels, and thus on global warming

Lego to stop producing fossil fuel based blocks

According to this article, the Lego company is looking to transition to using sustainable materials in their products. Since their startup in the 1950's, they been using oil based products, but are now investing heavily in lowering their carbon footprint.
