Public Service Announcement: Do not eat this mushroom!

In recent months, 14 people in California have been severely poisoned by eating the Wild Death Cap Mushroom that was foraged from the surrounding lands. This is one deadly mushroom, as the name suggests and some of those affected have needed liver transplants already. A toddler who ate the mushroom will have "permanent neurological impairment".

In summary, the TLDR is that it is best to avoid eating any mushrooms offered by a forager. Hundreds of people die each year as a result of mushroom poisoning.

oooh dear! if I didn't know / didn't have what I needed on hand to figure out if a wild mushroom was safe to eat, I sure wouldn't pick it up and eat it anyway, fads be damned!

Definitely. When in doubt, better to be safe than sorry! That family who bought the mushrooms off the forager must be kicking themselves right now.

That is so sad. I have done some wild mushroom picking but only ones that I am 100% certain about!

I forgot it name in bahasa, but in Achenese languange named with 'Kulat ek asei'.

Hope people know that it's deadly and that they shouldn't be eating it. It looks harmless enough.

I knew this mushroom when i was junior high school. I picked it up n brought home, then my grandma asked me to throw away because it poisonous mushroom.

That was a close call! Smart grandma :)

Lol. SHe taught based on her experiences. In 1984 One of neighbour died because of that mushroom. Very valuable experiences.

foraging for wild mushrooms has become quite a fad but many people have no clue what they are doing. at least get the guide to the local fungi and definitély don't êt anything not already identified by an expert

Good advice. "Natural" and "organic" have become such buzzwords but a lot of poisons are also natural and organic. I just hope they recover. The baby's case is the most tragic. :(

Still no reason to skip either natural or organic.

If its natural, organic and certified fit for consumption, then by all means :)

Hey numpypython, thanks for sharing, I would never plug unknown mushrooms :O. I want to focus especially on newcomers but also on people that are very active. My plan is to build up a community with active users to support each other and creating a curation trail. Looking forward to curating more effectively, would you be interested? Upvoted and following, greetings Lena!

Thanks @lenatramper. Done likewise. Would definitely be interested and looking forward to it :)

thank you very much :) some people introduced me how to ground a curation trail, I am also very new in this topic, this is his post, it is perfect explained what a curation trail is https://steemit.com/faq/@acidyo/what-are-curation-trails-and-delegated-steem-power , first step you have to logg in on Streemian and then we can follow each other, upvoting our post and support each other :) thank you very much for replaying !! Feel free to ask for more , looking forward to work together
