About Hong Kong - Building(1) - Jardine House, was the tallest building in Asia

Today, I worked at the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong. When I looked through the window, I saw a symbolic building in Hong Kong. And I decide to introduce this building to you.

Jardine House was the tallest building in Asia from 1973 to 1980, until Hopewell Centre in Hong Kong usurped the title. It is owned by the Jardines.

Jardine House was built in 1973, which is the first skyscraper in Hong Kong. (Now HK is the city having the largest number of skyscrapers in the world. We really can’t imagine 40 years ago.) The building is designed by James Hajime KINOSHITA. The height of Jardine House is 178.5m, highest level is the 52nd floor.

Jardine House was built on a reclaimed land and the price was HK$258 million, which broke the HK record, payable interest free over a period of 10 years. As a return, the HK Government agreed that there will be no building directly built to the north of the building and obstruct the view to the Victoria Harbour.

Jardine House is famous of its special round window, which is one of the Chinese traditions. You can enjoy the wonderful HK night view in the building.

Jardine House is now used for commercial offices. Many international brands like Rolex, BASF and Hopson Development, also set their HK headquarter at Jardine House.

If you visit Hong Kong, you may go to Central and take a look at this interesting building. There are a lot of symbolic buildings in Central. I will share with you in the next articles!

Wish you enjoy!

Sometimes I just wonder why countries even bother competing with each other to build tallest building.
LOL

I think it's a kind of politics and economy. Countries show others that "I can build the world tallest building! I have this power. So come to my country to invest!"

The photo is a bit too dim

right, because i didn't have a tripod stand and couldn't lower my shutter speed.

This is the first time I'm seeing a skyscraper with round windows.

yes it is the characteristic of this building making it famous in HK~
