Cervantes Magazine Number 22: Videogames
Hello, Steemit community! With this title I want to emphasize that many times the origin of nations or governments that we know today is unknown because simply, at the time, the founding fathers omitted certain dubious or controversial situations to exercise their power and autonomy without question.
I ask you the following question: Would you be willing to follow a government that was built thanks to a planetary genocide?
With this question, which obviously seems ridiculous and unimaginable for our current social state, we enter the dark and fascinating lore world of the game Starcraft, which perfectly reflects this debate.
Below there are comments that spoiler part of the plot so if you don’t want to know and want to play this title, I suggest you stop reading.
Starcraft brings us a dystopian universe where there are three main races which are:
To enter into context, the Terrans are a group of humans living in the Sector Koprulu, in the events of Starcraft this group of humans are governed by a corrupt government called the Confederation, which is beginning to suffer war from guerrillas by a group called The Sons of Korhal led by the charismatic leader Arcturus Mengsk who seeks the freedom of the Terrans.
After a series of missions, Arcturus takes control of a weapon of planetary destruction that he does not hesitate to use in the capital world of the Tarsonis confederation. This attack is led by one of its most faithful followers Sarah Kerrigan.
When activating the weapon of massive destruction, Kerrigan attracts the attention of innumerable Zerg colonies that begin to invade the planet, ending all resistance and life that they encounter. In the end Arcturus withdraws from the planet and leaves Sarah to her fate with an ally, Jim Raynor, who is hurt and upset by the genocide that was created, just because of Mengsk’s lust for power.
With the destruction of Tarsonis the confederation is destroyed, the Sons of Korhal take the power as a liberating group of the people and Arcturus, as ruler, renames the old empire as: The Terran Domain.
After that, Jim Raynor creates the "Rebels of Raynor", which seek to overthrow the corrupt government of Mengsk, who uses propaganda to create a Post-truth in which, the ruler was a savior of the people, could not prevent the Tarsonis fall and incriminates Raynor and his followers as simple bandits who want to destabilize the Government.
In Starcraft 2 the battle continues and the outcome of this "Truth" but that, I leave it as a task for anyone who wants to search online or want to play this title of strategy in real time (RTS) that I recommend 100%.
This story shows how, sometimes, a great conflict in a certain environment has actors that modify the truth to make up atrocities that were carried out and establish what is known today.
I can not say that every government is safe from this, but what’s important is thinking if you are willing to participate supporting these people or be the voice that says ENOUGH!, to change the establishment and try to build something more noble and just .
The magazine thanks you for taking the time to read this Post, we hope that this information has been useful and we suggest you keep an eye on the next publication, since there is still more material to cut on the World of Videogames.
