Yeah it's called a neologism. You're right the media is 80%+ left so they try to shy away from alt-left being a thing. They generally describe it as people against Trump which is a gross understatement. It should refer to extremist groups on the left like ANTIFA etc. but it neglects that information. We already know Wikipedia is apart of the big tech silicon valley grouping

Or in the interest of inclusion, cohesiveness, and equality we could just use the word slang. I think the fourth definition in terms of psychiatry fit best.
