Daily Challenge; TUESDAY : Animal Kingdom
Say hello to one of the world's most amazing creatures.
THE KING COBRA
The King cobra is the world's longest venomous snake. The adult King cobra can grow as long as 10 - 13 feets, long and weigh as much as 6kg to 12kg.
This stream and lake area lover is widely distributed in India (where it is the national animal), and other areas in Southern Asia. However the population of this beautiful creature is dropping rapidly as a result of deforestation.
King cobras are secretive creatures which avoid human human contact as much as possible. They feed on other snakes, reptiles and rodents. Did you know, King cobras can live for months without food after eating a large meal. This is as a result of their slow metabolism.
Now would you like to play with a King cobra? I would though! But save their temperament. Naturalist say that the King cobra's temperament is over exaggerated. When confronted it tries to escape. It however becomes very aggressive when it is continuously provoked. It rears up one third of its body, spreads out its hood, hisses loudly( almost like a growl), and strikes continuously. It can deliver several bites in one strike.
And yeah, please stay away from a King cobra sitting on its egg nest, it practically strikes anything that comes close.
If you ever accidentally encounter a King cobra, slowly remove a shirt or a hat and toss it to the ground while backing away.
I sincerely hope you enjoyed reading about this fascinating creature.
