The Guanabana is a dark green fruit, which comes from the Annona muricata tree of the Annonaceae family, cultivated in many tropical countries. The Annona Muricata tree is a fruit tree that usually measures about 8 meters high and each tree usually gives 15 guanabanas. Guanabana has a bark with spikes and can measure about 30 cm long and weigh about 4 kilos. Inside is a white meat with black seeds.

The Guanabana is considered one of the healthiest fruits, due to the richness of nutrients that it can bring to the body. Guanabana pulp consists mainly of water, mineral salts, potassium, phosphorus, iron, calcium, lipids and is rich in vitamin C, provitamin A and vitamin B.

According to its history, it was cultivated in ancient times by the indigenous cultures of Mesoamerica, who used from their leaves to the seeds to prevent and treat different diseases.

As mentioned earlier, Guanabana is a source of vitamin C, an essential nutrient to strengthen the immune system and prevent diseases. It also contains significant amounts of B vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6) iron, magnesium and potassium. In smaller amounts it provides amino acids, acetogenins (in its leaves), alkaloids, galactomanana and glucosides. Guanabana acts as a natural digestive, able to regulate the intestinal flora and protect the liver. The substances contained in the Guanabana help increase the body's immune response to reduce the recurrence of viral diseases or infections. This benefit is attributed to its high content of vitamin C that acts as a powerful antioxidant, capable of inhibiting the free radicals of the environment that accelerate the aging process. Each 100 grams of fruit can provide up to 20 of the 60 mg of vitamin C that a person requires per day.

Regular intake of this fruit is a healthy way to support liver and gallbladder functions. Its richness in antioxidants favors the cleaning of this organ and helps in the process of digestion of fats so that it works in perfect conditions. This delicious fruit is a significant source of phosphorus and calcium, essential minerals for good bone and dental health. It is recommended for women in the menopause stage, since it is an excellent way to protect the bones from the loss of density they suffer from the decrease in estrogen. To avoid having to resort to commercial energizers and rich in stimulating compounds, Guanabana represents a healthy source of energy. This is due to its significant contribution of fructose, the natural sweet that contains fruits and that can activate the body both physically and mentally.
Thanks to its high content of B vitamins, it is good to improve blood circulation and protect nerves. Vitamin B2 improves the function of the nervous system and also supports cardiac functions to reduce the risk of diseases.
The pulp of the fruit can be consumed in juice or water and is usually diuretic. The leaves can be consumed in tea as well as the bark of the tree; the powdered seeds serve as an insect repellent by spreading them on the skin; water from the leaves of the Guanabana is also indicated against lice.

The fruit is excellent to prevent the flu and when you have the disease helps the recovery of it. Decongest the chest, so just cook three Guanabana leaves and a handful of flowers of the same and tea is sweetened with honey.

The fruit of the Guanabana when consumed green is excellent against jaundice (yellowing of the skin, mucous membranes and eye conjunctiva). For this, the fruit must be cut when it is not yet ripe in small pieces, remove the seeds and liquefy them. It can be sweetened with honey to make its taste a bit more pleasant since when the fruit is not ripe it tends to be a bit bitter its flavor.

Guanabana is a fruit that by its values can improve your health but should not be considered as a substitute to any medicine. Any question consult your doctor.
