River

Water is necessary for life, and it is said that Jehovah is the source of living water, a river is a permanent stream of water that flows through a natural channel, you have surely seen it, crossed it or swum in it; Even the first river mentioned in the Bible was apparently born in Eden and watered the garden that Jehovah gave as home to Adam and Eve. It was divided into four headwaters, which, in turn, became rivers: the Pisón, the Guihón, the Hidequel and the Euphrates.

Some of the main rivers mentioned in the Bible are the Hidequel (Tigris), the Euphrates, the Jordan, the Abaná and the Farpar. Although the Nile is not mentioned by that name in the original languages, it is referred to by the term ye'ór (sometimes ye'óhr), a term that apparently also means a stream or channel, or a well or gallery full of water. The context reveals when the words ye'or or ye'óhr designate the Nile, and for that reason the name Nile appears in the translations of the Bible.

Often the Euphrates is simply called the River. As it is the longest and most important river in the SO. Asian, for the Hebrews it was the great river. Therefore, what was called the River was not ambiguous.

With Jehovah's help, King David was able to extend the boundaries of the Promised Land to the Euphrates. Concerning his son Solomon, he declared: "And he will have subjects from sea to sea and from the River [Euphrates] to the ends of the earth." (Ps 72: 8) In Zechariah's prophecy those words are repeated and point to the rulership of the Messiah throughout the Earth.

It should be noted that Jesus arrives at the bank of the Jordan River from Galilee, and there he asks his cousin John to baptize him. John protests and says that it is he who should be baptized by Jesus. Jesus answers:

"Leave me now, for it is fitting that we thus fulfill all justice."
Gospel of Matthew 3,15
John proceeds and the Spirit of God descends on Jesus, while a voice said:
"This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."
Gospel of Matthew 3,17

Rivers served as a barrier against the advance of enemy forces and played a vital role in the defense of certain cities, such as, for example, Babylon. Jerusalem, however, had no river as a natural means of defense. However, Jehovah God was like the source of a powerful river of protection for that city. The enemies that were against Jerusalem would fail as if they were a hostile galleys fleet.

(Isac 8: 7.)
The disastrous overflow of a river is used to represent the invasion of enemy forces.

Faith is like the strength of a river that grows its flow because the more we create with fervor, do not open an enemy or obstacles that can not be overcome.

(Juan 7:38)
"He who believes in me, as the Scripture says, from his inner self will flow rivers of living water"
