English Bulldog: is a canine race originally from the United Kingdom, which was initially used to bet on dog fights during the seventeenth century, although in 1835 this practice was banned in the United Kingdom. At present, this dog is one of the symbols of England.
Its origin is in the «old African dog, kelb thal gliet, or dog of Maltese bulls: a race imported to England, that crossed with old mastines gave origin to the old English bulldog.

The origin of the name is due to the fact that it was a butcher's dog, that is, its function was to make the bulls run, believing that their flesh was softer. Although it is likely to be a deformation of the name Band dog or "hardened dog".
Keep in mind that the old bulldogs have nothing to do with the current one, they were only modified with crosses with other races like the pug or carlino; race from which the bulldog inherited its flattened snout as well as its plump musculature.
The ancient bulldogs were dogs of varied appearance, sometimes dogs with elongated snouts and of all colors. It must be borne in mind that the old bulldog was a working animal, which gave great importance to the character.

The origins of the English bulldog go back, like all Molossians, to the Tibetan mastiff, which spread throughout the world thanks to the Phoenician navigators. In today's Britain, the Tibetan mastiff crossed with local dogs gave rise to a dog that could be compared to a mastiff today and was used to fight against the Romans when, in the year 55 BC. C., they tried to invade for the first time the British islands.

The courage, physical potency and resistance to pain manifested by these dogs so impressed the Romans that they took some of them to Rome to fight in the arena against bears and lions.

The bulldog is a breed predisposed to suffer heat strokes due to its cranial conformation, most dogs of this breed have at least one of the Brachiocephalic Syndrome anomalies, a situation that deteriorates their breathing in different degrees and makes them unable to cool them effectively in times of intense exercise and high temperatures. Reason why it is prone to "heat stroke" or hyperthermia, to sleep apnea and digestive difficulties. Studies have shown that the causes of many of the digestive problems in this race (excessive intestinal gasification, gastric torsion, reflux and poor digestion, among others) are detonated by their respiratory problems.

His propensity to obesity has diverse causes and, coupled with his taste for food, is an important point to watch as it can increase the problems of hip dysplasia to which the bulldog is prone. When they are obese they suffer a greater number of bone lesions in the extremities and hip, they have greater possibilities of respiratory and blood collapse, as well as a higher index of various diseases of cardiac origin. To help keep you in good health and reduce the risk of disease is recommended to exercise 20 to 30 minutes daily or at least every third day, with walking at medium pace (not jogging) during the cool hours of the day. It is recommended to leave an interval of time before and after the dog eats to exercise it without risks.

Another important factor that contributes to the maintenance of your health is the periodic veterinary attention at least every six months. It should be noted that the bulldog suffers in some cases of eye problems, called entropion and ectropion, diseases that must be operated so as not to affect the cornea of said animal. Go to the nearest veterinarian who has experience in the breed so that, in addition to deworming, vaccinating and cleaning teeth, perform a general review through laboratory analysis. Provide routine care that includes: brushing your hair every other day; bathe him, cut his nails and clean wrinkles every three to four weeks or as the dog requires; play with him daily for a few brief minutes to reaffirm communication and friendship; reaffirm their good education by repeating learned orders and behavioral limits, as well as teaching them new obedience commands.

In the field of mating, artificial insemination is usually used given the difficulty of riding or natural jumping, since the morphology of the specimens does not help mating; finishing the gestation period, in most cases they must have a caesarean operation for the birth of the puppies due to the bone form of their hip not being of help to develop a natural birth, at least without risks. special attention and vigilance in the last days of pregnancy, recommending veterinary visit to determine the general condition of the female and future puppies.
