Hello friends following this interesting challenge # celestialchallenge today I will be talking about urban agriculture.
Urban agriculture is called agricultural practices that take place in cities or very close to them. Therefore, it is a small scale agriculture, since in urban environments there is not the same availability of land as in rural areas.
Urban and peri-urban agriculture allows to maximize the production of various agricultural products (especially vegetables and fresh fruits) in spaces not used in the cities and their surroundings. It allows to reduce the distance between producers and consumers and consequently lower prices and solve shortage problems.
Urban agriculture tends to develop on the roofs of buildings, on the walls of houses and on the balconies and terraces of buildings. It can also be cultivated in public spaces such as bridges and streets.
Urban agriculture has its own characteristics that differentiate it from other production systems: a wide range of products, a great diversity of participants and heterogeneous conditions for production. This brings challenges to develop sustainable production levels.
