The Starting Phase of the Construction of Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway
The Construction of Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway Project which is also known as the Third Mactan-Cebu Bridge is commencing its construction phase. This bridge will be connecting the Mactan Island to the mainland of Cebu, linking the South Road Properties (SRP) in Cebu City to Barangay Pilipog in Cordova.
With a 22.6 billion design and build contract, the 3rd Mactan Bridge is targeted to be completed in 2021, as Cebu, Philippines marks the 500th birth of Christianity. For this reason, the bridge might be even named after Cebu’s patron, “Sto. Niño Bridge”.
Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) is a 8.5-kilometer long bridge, to be considered as the longest bridge in the Philippines, about four times the length of the San Juanico Bridge having a 2.16-kilometer stretch. This alternative route serving the Mactan Cebu International Airport will have a width of 27 meters to serve at least 40,000 vehicles daily. With its vast traffic capacity, CCLEX will surely help decongest the traffic in the existing Mactan-Mandaue and Marcelo Fernan Bridges.
Let us a take a closer look at the projected features of this Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway courtesy of Cebu Link Joint Venture (CLJV). The following are the screenshots of CCLEX Construction Methods Video:
This project is being awarded to Cebu Link Joint Venture (CLJV), which is composed of a Spain-based Acciona Construccion SA, and Philippine-based firms First Balfour Inc. and D.M. Consunji Inc.
At the moment, our company is also chosen as one of the sub-contractors for this project. In fact, we just went lately this day to the actual site at SRP for coastal and site survey for creating a jetty before the actual construction of the bridge starts.
I can’t disclose more about this project’s information but this is how a jetty looks like:
Simply, the purpose of creating a jetty is to transport materials necessary for the construction of the CCLEX. This is only a temporary facility until the completion of CCLEX construction.
Curious about how this bridge will be built? You must see this video then:
The Build, Build, Build program of the Philippine Government is already felt by the mass. We may encounter several inconveniences at the moment due to the left and right constructions but it will all matter in the long run. So, who’s excited about this new bridge?
