Presentation of My Visit to Gabès (Travel Series Entry)

Edited by LifeCollage.
Hello Steemians,
Today I begin a new travel series about Gabes, a remarkable city in southern Tunisia.
What makes Gabes so special is that it is the only coastal oasis in the entire Mediterranean, where the sea meets palm groves, and desert winds mix with fresh coastal breezes.
This trip was not just sightseeing; it was an immersion into everyday life, traditions, and landscapes.
From the lively streets and sandy beaches to the handicrafts, food, and nearby villages like Toujane and Matmata, each step revealed a different side of southern Tunisia.
What This Series Will Cover
Here’s how I will share my journey in different parts:
- Streets of Gabes & Daily Life : my first impressions on arrival, walking through the city.
- Beach of Gabes : a look at the coast, calm waters, and atmosphere.
- Gmar Handicrafts : discovering traditional weaving with Pennisetum setaceum and palm fronds.
- Day in Toujane : visiting the Amazigh mountain village.
- Day in Old Matmata : exploring the troglodyte homes and unique landscapes.
- Food of Gabes : sharing what I ate and where.
- Jara Market : souvenirs, traditional products, and the lively souk.
- Travel Log & Roads : documenting the routes: Tunis→Gabes, Gabes→Matmata, Matmata→Toujane, and back.
First Feelings of Gabes
Arriving in Gabes, the first thing that caught my eyes was the contrast of colors:
the deep blue of the sea, the endless green of palm groves, and the ochre tones of the houses and streets.
Life here feels slower, warmer, and deeply rooted in tradition a perfect balance between nature and culture.

This introduction is just the beginning. In the next posts, I will take you step by step through each experience of this trip.
