Yes, the flash power is important as with all the modifiers a big part of the light is lost. I use thick black plastic straws, 6mm diameters, 30 cm long. I play a lot with the angle of the incoming light :)

I think the longer they are, the less light arrives at the target.
The honey comb modifier on my pro-grade strobe is only 3 cm and it perfectly works.

This should work, I think, and probably the coloring of the paper (if any) could affect the smoke too?
Хорошая идея с цветом бумаги. Если сделать комплект основных цветов, то можно получать разные эффекты без пост обработки. Надо попробовать.
А ещё надо попробовать не бумагу, а фольгу и глянцевый пластик.
Yes! If you have two flashes, using gels with two different colors would create unique coloring, I think.
I may try this as well, if there is less work in the next weeks, hehe.
к сожалению, вспышка у меня всего одна. Я не занимаюсь студийной съёмкой. Я простой любитель. Но можно попробовать сделать отражение от зеркала и направить его на дым. Из одной вспышки получится сразу два луча ))
Надо подумать о второй вспышке, пожалуй... ))
I think with the smoke photography, it is easier, as the surface isn't big.
What about a white sheet of paper, A3 size should be enough to reflect enough light so it hits from two sides ;) Maybe A4 will be enough, I guess you have a sheet at home already to test. ;)
