¿Qué es el aceite de CBD?

El CBD es la abreviatura para cannabidiol, su aceite se extrae de la planta de cannabis y es uno de los más de 100 compuestos activos de esta planta.

¿Existe un aceite de CBD para gatos?

El aceite de CBD se ha utilizado en humanos durante milenios y a pesar de que no parece existir algún efecto secundario cuando se utiliza en perros, es diferente en el caso de los gatos.

No utilices aceite de CBD para humanos en tu gato, para ellos existe uno especial.

La información sobre los efectos del aceite de CBD especificado para otros animales en gatos es limitada, en general, según las experiencias de dueños y la opinión de los expertos, los gatos son muy sensibles y pueden presentar problemas al consumir aceite de CBD que no sea especial para ellos.

El aceite de CBD para gatos tiene una gran cantidad de propiedades beneficiosas para ellos, y al no contener THC, puedes estar tranquilo como dueño de que los efectos psicoactivos no dañaran la salud de tu mascota.

¿Cómo comprar aceite de CBD para gatos?

Ahora que sabes que cualquier aceite de cannabis no es apropiado para tu gato, te estarás preguntando ¿qué debería buscar cuando compro aceite de CBD para gatos?

Lo primero que debes tener en cuenta, es que lastimosamente, en el mercado existen muchas variables de aceite de CBD para gatos de mala calidad que pueden llegar a ser inseguros de utilizar en tu mascota.

Entonces toma nota para que puedas asegurarte de elegir el producto adecuado para mantener el bienestar de tu gato:

1. Comprueba la fuente del CBD utilizado para la fabricación del aceite.

• Las plantas de cannabis suelen absorber fácilmente lo que hay en los suelos de cultivo, por ello es importante evitar  los productos de cannabidiol que fueron cultivados con el uso de pesticidas.
•  Busca productos de CBD  que provengan de plantas cultivadas de manera orgánica para asegurar su calidad.  
• Investiga la marca del producto, en el caso del cannabis cultivado en EE.UU. se debe contar con  una certificación del Departamento de Agricultura de su estado y esta información es pública.

2. Busca CBD de espectro completo, no aislado.

• El  aceite de CBD de espectro completo incluye una variedad de elementos beneficiosos como suplementos primarios y secundarios, además de terpenos,  flavonoides y otros cannabinoides además del CBD que contribuyen a que tu gato se sienta mejor.
• El CBD aislado carece de estos últimos tres componentes, lo que afecta la eficiencia del tratamiento.

3. Verifica el certificado de análisis (COA). 

• Este es un aval que se le otorga a las empresas cuyos productos  aprueban las pruebas de  laboratorio que revisan  la pureza, calidad  y contaminantes  del cannabidiol.
• Se pueden identificar a las empresas que  utilizan pruebas de terceros revisando los sitios web de la empresa, así como las etiquetas del aceite de CBD para gatos. 

Entre las recomendaciones extras, busca que el aceite sea 100% CBD de cáñamo orgánico (no alguna mescla con soja u otro aceite), asegúrate de que el producto este identificado como “aceite de CBD” y no como “aceite de cáñamo” o alguna otra variante, ya que no es lo mismo.

Luego de tomar todas las previsiones anteriores, recuerda que todos los gatos al igual que las personas son diferentes. Puede que el aceite de CBD para gatos le ayude con sus dolencias, pero puede que no.

No todos gatos reaccionan de la misma manera al tratamiento con CBD. Asegúrate que observar atentamente la reacción de tu gato mientras este en tratamiento para prevenir cualquier reacción desfavorable.

¿El aceite de CBD para gatos es legal?

Bajo la Ley Agrícola 2018 en los Estados Unidos y en más de 40 países, siempre que los productos de CBD contengan menos del 0,3% de THC, estos son legales.

El THC es un compuesto al que se conoce por ser el causante de la sensación de estar drogado que provoca la marihuana, mientras que el CBD es conocido por ser relajante y no toxico.

De manera general, siempre que el aceite de CBD para gatos o para cualquier otro mamífero contenga menos del 0,3% de THC, se le clasifica como cáñamo, que es una sustancia no restringida, a diferencia de la marihuana que tiene altos niveles de THC.

Debido a esta legalización del cannabis, principalmente para el uso terapéutico en humanos, aumentó el número de intoxicación por cannabis en animales domésticos.

Si tu intención es mejorar la salud de tu gato, no le des golosinas caseras con cannabis, no le pongas algunas gotas tu aceite de CBD personal y sobretodo, evita fumar marihuana recreativa cerca de ellos.

Administra a tu gato solo productos especificados y elaborados para ellos.

En su mayoría, los aceites de CBD tienen un porcentaje igual o menor del 0,3% de THC, por lo que se ajustan al marco de la legalidad. Sin embargo, aun no existe alguna ley que permita a los veterinarios recetar el aceite de CBD para gatos a sus pacientes.

A pesar de ello, algunos veterinarios enfocados en la medicina alternativa lo podrían recomendar de manera informal, pero no recetarlo. Actualmente se está trabajando para cambiar esto.

Existen algunos proyectos de ley que tienen el fin de debatir el uso de cannabis para los animales y obtener participación por parte de los veterinarios.

¿Cómo actúa el aceite de CBD para gatos?

Una de las más grandes preocupaciones de los veterinarios es la falta de regulación de FDA sobre los productos de CBD que están disponibles en el mercado. Esto genera una gran confusión acerca de las dosis que se deben administrar.

Algunos efectos secundarios relacionados con sobredosis de aceite de CBD incluyen malestar gastrointestinal y letargo, ambos efectos no fatales que se pueden solucionar suspendiendo el uso del aceite.

¿Cuánto aceite de CBD debo darle a mi gato?

Como se menciono antes, aunque los efectos de una sobredosis de CBD no serán fatales para tu gato, pero sin duda le causará molestias que pueden repercutir en su esto de ánimo y en su alimentación.

Los expertos, entre los que se encuentra el Dr. Gary Richter, director médico de atención veterinaria holística en Oakland, sostienen que administrar una dosis adecuada, es definitivamente lo más importante para el uso correcto de aceite de CBD para gatos.

Desafortunadamente, por falta de investigación en el tema, aun no se ha logrado llegar a un consenso sobre las dosis adecuadas. Aunque como regla general se recomienda una gota de 4% o 5% de aceite de CBD por cada 5 kg de peso corporal.

De igual manera, si luego de un tiempo de que tu gato lo este consumiendo esta dosis parece insuficiente o muy baja, se recomienda aumentarla de apoco. Debes tomar en cuenta que lo mejor es comenzar con una dosis pequeña y luego ir ajustándola según las necesidades de tu gato.

¿Durante cuánto tiempo debo darle aceite de CBD a mi gato?
