There is a likelihood which emerges from a predominance of chances on any side, and as this prevalence increments and outperforms the contrary chances, the likelihood gets a proportionable increment, conceives still a higher level of belief or consent to that side in which we find the predominance.

In the event that a die were set apart with one figure of spots on four sides, and with another figure of spots on the two outstanding sides, it would be more likely that the former would turn up than the last mentioned. On the off chance that it had a thousand sides set apart in a similar way, and just a single side extraordinary, the likelihood would be considerably higher and our belief or desire of the occasion all the more enduring and secure.

This process of the idea or reasoning may appear to be paltry and clear yet to the individuals who consider it all the more barely, it might manage the cost of an issue for inquisitive hypothesis. It appears to be apparent that when the mind anticipates find the occasion, which may come about because of the toss of such a die, it considers the turning up of every specific side as alike plausible, and this is the very nature of chance, to render all the specific occasions, fathomed in it, totally equivalent.

Finding a more noteworthy number of sides agree in the one occasion than in the other, the psyche is conveyed all the more as often as possible to that occasion, and meets it more often than not, in spinning the different potential outcomes or chances, on which a definitive outcome depends. This simultaneousness of a few perspectives in one specific occasion generates promptly, by a strange invention of nature, the slant of belief, and gives that occasion the favorable position over its rival, which is upheld by fewer perspectives, and repeats less much of the time to the psyche.

If permitted, that belief is only a firmer and more grounded origination of an object than what goes to the negligible fictions of the imagination, this operation may, maybe, in some measure, be represented. The simultaneousness of these few perspectives or impressions engraves the thought all the more emphatically on the imagination, gives it unrivaled power and life, renders its impact on the interests and affections more sensible, and generates that dependence or security constitutes the nature of belief and sentiment.

The case is the same with the likelihood of causes, as with that of chance. There are a few causes, which are completely uniform and steady in creating a specific effect, and no occurrence has ever yet been found of any disappointment or abnormality in their operation. Fire has constantly consumed, and water choked out each human animal.

The creation of motion by drive and gravity is a universal law, which has until now conceded to no special case. Be that as it may, there are different causes, which have been discovered more unpredictable and dubious; nor has rhubarb constantly demonstrated a cleanse, or opium a balmy to each one, who has taken these meds.

It is valid, when any cause falls flat of creating its typical effect, philosophers attribute not this to any inconsistency in nature, but rather assume, that some mystery causes, in the specific structure of parts, have kept the operation. Our reasonings and conclusions concerning the occasion are the same as though this guideline had no place.

Being dictated by custom to exchange the past to the future, in every one of our derivations where the past has been altogether customary and uniform, we expect the occasion with the best confirmation, and rule out any opposite supposition.
