A Tough Three Weeks

in #caturday4 years ago

I keep looking, listening and checking everything like I used to. The only difference is that now her dishes are empty and off the floor, the litter boxes have been empty and cleaned, there's basically a brand new bag of food sitting around and then there's her toys......I haven't dealt with those yet.

Before all of this happened, I had been trying to find her a friend. She was used to other cats and was always looking at my feet when I would walk into my room, as if expecting to see a familiar furry face. My first attempt was a big orange boy that was 10 years younger and weighed twice as much as she did. To make a long story short, that monster was terrified of my old girl that had no front teeth. After three weeks, she still hated him and he was still afraid of her, so he had to go back.

A week later, I brought home another guy, but he was only about three years younger (he's about 10), not supposed to be very energetic and not vocal. Well, that part about the age was right at least. After about thirty minutes of hiding, I started to hear these funny little sounds from his hiding spot and it wasn't long after that he decided to come out and investigate. Naturally, Petunia wasn't terribly thrilled with this one either, but there was very SLIGHT progress with this new guy on her part, but he took to me almost immediately. Unfortunately, that's when she had the seizure that sent her downhill all because of one ingredient that is in most dry cat food.

The day before Petunia went to the vet, I had to give that poor guy back to concentrate on Petunia. I keep thinking about that poor guy and also about the other kitty that came from the same owner that had passed sometime last year. This older girl (about 12) was trying to bond with me while I was there, so I know that won't be an issue. They both know each other and I know both of them. I'm just struggling with the idea of adopting Scooter and Roxy. Roxy would need a name change just because of my only and least favorite aunt.

It's a decision that I'm struggling with and hopefully I can make it sooner rather than later.

I took these pics a couple months ago. When Petunia wasn't with me, she was here next to me on a storage tote curled up on a comfy seat cushion.

This next one would be after I accidentally disturbed her and would be my last pic of her.

I think the look on her face said it best.

HOW DARE YOU WAKE ME!

Of course I made it up to her.

It is one of the most difficult thing about being a pet lover... that time when our furry friend suddenly is no longer there. It may sound like cold comfort at this time, but Petunia will always be with you, in your heart.

You will know when the time is right...
