Cat Feeding Tips

in #cats7 years ago

Use the following feeding guidelines to protect your cat's health:

Choose good quality cat foods. Cheap foods tend to be mostly filler, which means that cats need to eat more of them just to feel satisfied, and are more likely to become obese. Also, cheap foods tend to be high in carbohydrates, which can cause health problems for cats.

Don’t feed cats dog food. Cats have higher protein requirements than dogs, and they need foods that contain Taurine, whereas dogs do not. Cats fed dog food can develop health problems such as severe heart disease.

Tuna designed for humans can be given as a treat from time to time, but not daily, as it does not fulfill all of a cat’s nutritional requirements.

Make sure that fresh water is always available and provide water bowls at multiple locations around the house to encourage more drinking if feeding only dry food (cats on a dry diet often become chronically dehydrated).

If feeding raw eggs, feed the yolk only, as consuming raw egg whites can lead to a biotin deficiency in cats (there is also a slight risk of salmonella poisoning when feeding raw eggs).

Choose high-protein cat foods, as these more closely resemble a cat’s natural diet in the wild, and promote optimum health.

Wow thanks for this info! Who feeds their cats dog food??? As for water, we had to get our boys a fountain so that they could have more access to fresh water each day <3 They love it!
