Siamese Cats And The Himalayan Gene

Did you know that Siamese cats carry a recessive semi-albino genetic mutation called the Himalayan gene? This gene is heat sensitive and causes their unique coloring. In the cooler extremities of the body, the gene is less active, causing the Siamese cat's dark coloring on their ears, legs, and tail. Siamese kittens are born white because of the warmth of their mother's womb. During the winter months, Siamese cats tend to get darker; This gene also causes Siamese cats to have blue eyes.
