Weird Cat Breed: Exotic Shorthair

The Exotic Shorthair is a breed of cat intentionally bred to be a short-haired version of the Persian cat. The Exotic Shorthair is similar to the Persian cat in many ways, including temperament and the shape or structure like the flat nose and face with the exceptions of the short dense coat.

These short-haired cats tend to have more hair than the ordinary short-haired cat. Due to their soft, thick coat, the Exotic Shorthair tends to shed more than most cats with short hair. The Exotic was originally intended to be a silver cat and was going to be called the Sterling, but today it is found in all the same colors and patterns as the Persian cat: Be it silver and golden, shaded and smoke, tabby, bi-color and Himalayan. Its short coat is easily cared for with only a weekly brushing.

The Exotic is a sturdy cat with short legs and a compact body. From their rounded head, rounded bodies, and large round eyes, the term “round” is the best way to describe the Exotic Shorthair cat.

The breed is less than 50 years old with recognition by the Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA) in 1987 as an outcross breed. Outcross breeding is when a breeder introduces new genetic material into a breed to help reduce the genetic abnormalities and diseases caused by close family lineages.

When it comes to the Exotic Shorthair, the Persian and the American Shorthair have been mixed to create the breed.

The CFA describes them as quiet, sweet, peaceful and loyal companion pets. The Exotic Shorthair cat tends to be laid-back and affectionate. It will often be happy to sit in a lap or curl up on the shoulder.

It may enjoy sleeping in the owner's bed, although they do sometimes prefer cooler places to sleep. They also may follow the owner from room to room. According to the CFA, males are slightly more likely to be affectionate than females.

Exotics are playful and intelligent, enjoying games of all kinds. They are not noisy — when they do meow, their voice is usually soft. Their easygoing nature makes them a good choice for households with children or other pets.

I like that nose and those eyes. I have never seen this cat in the reality, but it is beautiful. Persian cats are usually very lazy boring cats lol I dont see them active like the normal cats. But I love all kitties :)

i tried to search on the Persian and American Shorthair Cat and look again on the photo and video above, I think it's more on the Persian Shorthair :-)

Yes, they are more closely related.
