Kenji seems to have that slightly "scruffy" appearance of on outside cat.
Around here we use a rubber brush called a "Zoom Groom" which has been very effective in removing the thick hair of BeBe's (in particular) winter coat.

hehe yeah we have started brushing her, just cause she's SO dirty sometimes. I don't think her owners brush her ever, lol.
