The character of these individuals was very barbaric according to the historical journals of Junipero Serra.

These men who came into California as priests and friars didn't have to answer to no anyone. They had very extreme and pernicious principles, that were not fit for any society, not even the most barbaric of societies could have lived under their rule. This class of men had despotic power over life and liberty, this was the character of these Jesuits priests of the Baja California.

The California natives that were under their rule did not have any rights. privileges, or justice. The natives of California conditions were no different than their African slave trade friends they couldn't run away there was an army called the Royal army of Spain that served the Jesuits day and night and were dependent on the priests for their pay and could be discharged for disobedience.

Many California natives were very miserable living in the missions some were baptized into Catholicism, and they did know why? Many of the natives loved the priests, many eagerly learned different trades, from black smithing, leather making and hoof extracting many different Latin-based languages. Many natives learned prayers and catholic hymns and every good deed came from God every bad deed was rewarded with severe punishment. Life for the natives at the mission would not last forever.

In the middle of the eighteen century the famous Jesuit society would crumble all 20 thousand members of the Jesuit order came to a downfall, the society had immense wealth and controlled much of the education youth in other countries, among their members princes and kings, politicians' civil administration in catholic countries. The Jesuits were in the height of power, but many Jesuits converted their missionary stations into commercial centers and conducted lucrative dealings and many were accused of not paying tithes. Suddenly they were all exiled by the pope himself.
Thousands of missions Indians from San Diego San Carlos, San Fernando and Loreto Baja California missions, returned back to their original reservations to begin their new freedom life and hope. The San Pascual tribe was one of the tribes that had organized themselves in the San Pascual valley and became a Royal tribe after helping General Kearney win the Mexican American war against the Californios who wanted to take California as their own, thanks to these brave natives who helped the General, the Californios couldn't take the California lands.
