Meet My Furbabies

in #cat6 years ago (edited)

Over the years, I've always had felines in my life. In the last year, I've dwindled from 4 down to 2.

My current boys come with heavy stories. Mr Pudgey (I didn't name him) was a package deal with his litter-mate and sister, Tiny. Their original "owners" (I dislike that term) we moving to Australia and couldn't take them, and were almost at the end of their rope because no one would take them together. We've been sharing a space for 8 years now. #Gingers together forever! Sadly, on December 14th, 2017, little Miss Tiny mysteriously choked on her kibble and passed within 15 minutes, leaving me shattered and devastated. Her brother also mysteriously developed stress-induced hypo-thyroidism. It's been a long, bumpy, and expensive road trying to get back to "normal". To date, he's on meds and gets more cuddles than he knows what to do with...but still cries for more ;)

My little Shai Shai is a year-and-a-half and was feral when we found each other. He's a pure Russian Blue, unbeknownst to me at the time. He came to me at 4 months, and was at the tail end of bottle feeding. I named him Shai Shai because that is the name of the Egyptian god of fate and destiny, because it was truly a miracle how we found each other. A friend of mine was driving down one of our provincial roads late at night and found some cats who had met their demise (due to car accident). Of course, she scooped up the lone surviving kitten and made sure not to leave anyone else behind. She then posted (on FB) that she found this kitten on the side of the road and that she couldn't keep it because she had 2 Great Danes at her house...so I stepped in and became the resident kitty-momma.

So here we go. I don't have children (only 2 in the spirit world) so they get all my attention, whether or not they like it ;) (jk, I'm super respectful of their space)

EDIT: Little Shai is also my Emotional Support Animal

Thank you! You know how people takes hundreds of pics of their children? I'm like that with animals lolol

Cats control the outer ear using 32 muscles; humans use 6

Moose ears are really muscular too. Strange thing to say, but I live in the bush so I see (and play with) them all the time :)

Some Siamese cats appear cross-eyed because the nerves from the left side of the brain go to mostly the right eye and the nerves from the right side of the brain go mostly to the left eye. This causes some double vision, which the cat tries to correct by “crossing” its eyes.

Wow, that's cool. I didn't know that.

Smuggling a cat out of ancient Egypt was punishable by death. Phoenician traders eventually succeeded in smuggling felines, which they sold to rich people in Athens and other important cities.

The cat's front paw has 5 toes, but the back paws have 4. Some cats are born with as many as 7 front toes and extra back toes (polydactl).

Touching, naughty, wise, playful and many other words that can be said about cats and cats. They come to our house and become family members. They say that the cat is absolutely independent and does not care about its owners. But this is perfect nonsense and a phenomenal lie. The cat knows perfectly well who lives with her in the house. And she certainly loves her owners. Of course, not as people do, but loves, misses, rejoices when you come into the house. She does it completely in her own way, but we understand this.

Oh, this is absolutely NOT my house. I pay rent and such...but it's totally their dwelling and they simply tolerate me because I feed them and scoop the poop ;)

Cats purr at the same frequency as an idling diesel engine, about 26 cycles per second.

Awww, so beautiful! I had to put down one of my feline furbabies a few years ago. It broke my heart. Had to give the others up for adoption later on. I miss having them around :( Thank you for sharing your story and photos!

That's so sad :( :(

My Tiny girl passed just last month (December) and another cat I had to put down due to renal failure in Sept of 2016 (Luna)She was such a gorgeous kitty, calico, I had to give her a separate pillow becsuse she kept stealing mine (yay for kitty butt fur!) and she always slept right beside me.

^^^ That's how they'd all sleep with me, no room to move!! But they always kept me warm in the cold Canadialand winters. That's me under the covers with Luna sitting ON me. :) (l-r: Mr Pudgey, Luna, Miss Tiny)
