Game Spotlight: Castle Crashers

Game spotlight:

Game spotlight is a series of short blogs I will post regularly on my page, the idea is to cover all types of small and indie games across all platforms that I think are great fun to play and are not too expensive. I personally love playing games made by small studios and independent creators because they tend to be more unique, so you are often in for a lot of surprises.

Castle Crashers:

Castle Crashers is a 2D beat em up game that can be played solo or with up to four players.

You can play in a battle arena mode or the main story mode, as you go through the story you and your companions will have to fend off the large number of enemies. Each enemy you kill will have a chance of dropping gold or food, you can spend gold on upgrades and the food will restore a portion of your health.

The actual aim of the game is to save the princess, as you go through the levels you will be chasing the people who have captured her.

There are 4 default characters you can play as, however there is also a further 20 characters that can be unlocked:

Green Knight

Red Knight

Blue Knight

Orange Knight

Each character has four main attacks; a basic slash, a jumping spin, a knock up and a spell, as you get further through the game you will be able to unlock stronger combos, you can also keep multiple enemies knocked up in the air by continuously attacking.

Each character also has a unique spell. You can also use a lot of different weapons overall there is 69 different weapons so you have a lot to choose from, each weapon will give you different upgrades. The upgrades you can get are;

Damage

Magic

Deference

Stamina

Each of the upgrades does what you would expect, except for stamina which goes towards movement speed and archery.

There is also quite a few different enemies along with 13 bosses who are all very different, each boss has unique attacks and movements, from defeating a boss you will be given a large amount of loot and XP.
When you level up you will gain points that go to the upgrades I mentioned before.

At first look I personally didn't think that Castle Crashers was going to be very good however after playing I found the game is actually a lot of fun and has a surprising amount of detail. If you play with a few friends the game can be so much fun and you can end up spending hours playing through the story, also because there is so many characters to unlock and weapons to find along with the amount of enemies there is always a lot to find.
