"If you break into my house, you're getting shot."
So, MSNBC has had a few hosts raising concerns about what Kamala Harris said about, "If you break into my house, you're getting shot."
To me, this was a pretty innocuous statement. Every state in the union has some form of castle doctrine. I don't think it's that controversial to say that you'd use deadly force to defend yourself against a home invader.
Still, by contrast, there are people who seem to have gotten their information regarding castle doctrine from Clancy Wiggum, and some of these people are gonna die in prison because of it.
There was a case in Arizona not to long ago in which an alcoholic stumbled into the wrong house and passed out on the couch. The home owner shot him dead while he was passed out on the couch. That's murder. The dude wasn't as imminent deadly force threat while he was unconscious.
In general, if somebody throws up his hands and says, "I'm sorry." You're not allowed to shoot him, even if he's in your house.
The rules of self-defense still apply in your own home, just with the rules being more slanted toward you as the homeowner.
