Captain Simian - The Firefly of 90s Cartoons

When I was a child there was a series canceled after its first Season. A series about a brave captain and his crew including a a crazy scientist and a mysterious woman venturing through space. Captain Simian even rocked the same red+brown color scheme as Captain Reynolds from Firefly.

To be fair the series itself was not as awesome as Firefly but the intro alone puts it really high in my nostalgia list. My brother and I did the foot low-five from 00:48 when we were kids :).

Being from 1997 it is one of the last american Cartoons with heavy anime influence (most of the great 80s-90s cartoons were american-japanese joint ventures). It was really sad to see it end after only one season, but there are some easter eggs referring to Captain SImian in the recent anime Space Dandy.

Compare this main villain to the Captain Simian villain Lord Nebula (he appears in the intro @ 0:20). We also have his helper: A monkey with a background similar to Captain Simian. Maybe Nebula won and enslaved him?

The cool thing about this compared to Firefly is that nobody knows Captain Simian, so at least it is a true secret tip. If you like to watch a good old action Cartoon but don't want to watch the Thundercats for the 10th time then the short monkey adventure might be right up your alley. Only having one Season has also the upside that you won't waste much life time in case you get hooked ;).
