Land Rover Series 2a New Project

in #cars6 years ago

Here we have our latest project the magnificent Series 2a by Land Rover, inspired by the American Willy’s Jeep.

It’s a 1970 late 2a model with a 2.2 petrol engine, we bought it last week and in the video you watch the journey from freeing the wheels to arriving at its new home.

The vehicle was used to just run around a field, and was last driven around 7 years ago, it was originally bronze green with a cream roof.

As you can see the previous owner had a go at painting it camo, from first looks we can see it’s been around 5 different colours including yellow and blue.

We towed the Series 2a with a Hi Lux to free the wheels, it needed a short tug to release the seized brakes.

It was then towed for a short distance out of a paddock to an area where we awaited our transporter.

Once at home, we started on pumping the tyres up, jet washing the greenery off and generally making the 2a more presentable whilst assessing which work would be required.

We jet washed off all the flaky paint the plan is to restore back to Bronze Green and the hard top to be cream, however in the summer use a no roof or a canvas roof and fold the twin windscreen down.

Will the 2a start?

Well we thought it would take some time, mind you we knew that classic Land Rovers were robust.

We put some new petrol in, cleaned the plugs, poured a little fuel in the carb, fitted a battery and turned over the engine once pulling out the Cold Start or choke.

The Land Rover burst into life (see on the video) yikes there was a fuel leak, replaced the fuel line to the carb and now runs.

A great British classic project.

Ooooh tag me in any new posts about this!!! What a beautiful beast. They just go and go. What a find. Be good to strip back and paint a classic colour.
