On this day in 1902, the world's first gas-powered Locomobile hits the road and became a reality opening doors to other inventions as we have come to know it.

The Locomobile which is a 4-cylinder, 12-horsepower Model C was valued at $4,000 and was delivered to a buyer in New York City by Engineer Andrew Riker.

The Locomobile company which is known for building heavy powerful steam cars, created this gas-powered car at the turn of the century thereby heralding a move into the new world of elegant, luxury touring cars. Until it went out of business in 1929, the company continued to build fast cars for wealthy patrons and that gas-powered Locomobile was dubbed "Best Built Car In America."
