1968 Mercedes 250 SL Pagoda
The elegant 1968 Mercedes 250 SL Pagoda will heading to auction through RM Sotheby's this August at Monterey (California). A timeless design !
History of the Mercedes 250 SL
The Mercedes 250 SL was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 1967. This two-seat touring convertible was designed by Paul Bracq, French automotive designer for Mercedes with 230 SL,280 SL roadster and known also about his work on the TGV high-speed train.
The design was very angular with its Pagoda hardtop that could be removed on sunny roads. Mercedes was very proud about this model, so it was expensive. Only 5,196 were sold from 1966 to 1968 (with a third sold in the US).
Technical specification
The Mercedes 250 SL was offered with a V8 fuel-injected SOHC inline engine and four-speed manual transmission for a top speed of 200 kmh. For the interior, the 250 SL offered an improved seat belt design, a Becker Europa radio, power assisted steering...
This model was restored in 2014 in Graphite Grey for the body (originally finished in White over Cognac MB-Tex) and Grey White for the Pagoda. Beautiful interior in white leather... A classic beauty !
