Global EV sales: Baic EC Series wins April, Nissan still on top YTD

in #cars6 years ago

The global EV sales for the month of April have been published by EV Sales Blogspot. The Chinese BAIC EC-Series was the best selling EV with nearly 7,500 registrations in its home market. With nearly 6,000 Leafs sold, Nissan comes in second this month and the BYD e5 came in third with sales of about 4,300 cars.

Year-to-date ranking

Looking at the year-to-date ranking Nissans Leaf still is first, but the margin with the BAIC EC-Series has become very small. Both are now in the 27,000 range of cars sold, so we have to wait a couple of months to see which car will likely become the 2018 best seller. In third and fourth place are two PHEV models, the Toyota Prius PHEV/Prime and the BYD Song EV. Further down, all three Tesla models have made it to the top ten. Besides that only one European car can be found (Renault Zoe), which might indicate that the old continent is missing the boat (at least from a manufacturer perspective).

What to expect in May?

May is going to be an exciting month again. Model 3 is ramping up and deliveries in Canada have started this month. Based on reporting from Electrek however, which stated that more than thousand Model 3 vehicles have been spotted in Canada, June is going to be even more exciting.
We will also see whether the “Rapidgate” coverage is negatively affecting the Leaf sales and whether the more-than-doubling sales figures pursue in many European countries, such as The Netherlands and Germany.
