EV Sales Blogspot has provided us with the Chinese EV sales numbers for the month of September. The already hot market showed a record once again, reaching 100,000 EVs sold in one month for the first time.

In September a total of 105,000 EVs (Plug in Hybrid and Battery Electric together) have been sold in China. With this number the record of May, when 95,000 EVs were sold, has been broken.

Looking at the different models, the BYD Tang PHEV was the top seller this month with just over 6,000 registrations. This Plug in is followed by four full electric models, all of which are made by Chinese manufacturers. Second is the Chery EQ, with about 5,300 vehicles sold, and third is the BYD Yuan EV, with 5,000 registered cars. The top 5 is completed by the Hawtai EV160 and the JAC iEV S/E.

Year-to-date ranking

Looking at the YTD-ranking below, it first and foremost stands out how many different models are on production numbers that are over 3,000 a month. This shows how serious China (and its car manufacturers) is about electrifying the car fleet. Also the total number of 650,000 EVs sold this year is quite impressive, although that still is a small percentage (3.3%) of the total market.

Looking at the model ranking, the BAIC EC-Series is still on top by a large margin. Not much has changed in the top 3, since the BYD Qin PHEV stayed second and the JAC iEV S/E stayed third.
With many different models on the market BYD is leading the manufacturer ranking for 2018 at 19% market share, followed by BAIC, with 13%.
